Welcome to Budget Your Goals! I’m Kelly, the author and creator of this little blog giving you some real insight into my own financial and personal life.
Although we would have never defined ourselves as aiming to be a member of the FIRE (financial independence, retire early) group, we are certainly well on our way and working simultaneously on both sides of this equation. We are still working on the FI part but have no consumer debt and less than six figures of mortgage debt. While many FIRE members do not pay off their mortgage, we are for peace of mind that we truly desire. How great is it that we can each choose such different financial paths?
With the retire early side, we are already hustling to replace the 1 income we live on. We have 2 paid in full rentals and have been landlords for just shy of a decade. We hope to grow our rental business when our children are a bit older. For now, we are working towards fully funding our retirement account and watching the numbers grow!
My biggest (and favorite) roles define me as mother, wife, and child of God. My husband and I have been married for over 9 years and were high school sweethearts. We live in rural United States and are raising 3 sweet children!
I formerly had a career in counseling after completing my master’s degree. Our family became consumer debt free in 2013 and were then able to budget one of our biggest goals: allowing a parent to stay at home with our children. In 2014, I put my career on hold and began my hardest job yet, raising children. It's a blessing and an honor. Flash forward to today and this goal, met by budgeting our priorities gave us the idea for this blog: Budget Your Goals.
We are so happy you are here.
THE BLOG: When I stumble across an interesting blog (which happens daily), I like to come to this exact same section in search of two things: who that person is and why they started their blog. I have covered who I am above, so let me explain why I started this blog. Two reasons fueled my desire to write about my finances:
1) For my family: As I go through the trials and tribulations of learning about money, I often find myself wondering how these experiences looked for our parents and those before us. I am hoping this documented journey will be something my child (hopefully children) can reflect on later in life!
2) To help someone else: I thank Pinterest, blogs, and Facebook for teaching me so many things about life I never thought about (homemade soap, storage solutions, homemade Halloween costumes, etc.) when it came to being frugal. There came a point where I started to think, “Hey, I am sure someone could learn something from me.” I hope to help someone else as I discuss my own journey.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about me! I hope that you learn something from me! I would also love to learn something from you as well, so contact me!
